Custom Cushions at Half the Cost!

Posted on July 29, 2016 By

Do you want a new sofa cushion to bring life back into an old couch? Are you tired of the plain, drab cushions, made of just any fabric? Well, wait no more. You can get custom-made, brand new cushions at half the cost!

When deciding on a cushion, some of the first things that you’re going to want to figure out are the color and material. The location of your item will be important in this decision. Is it going outside? If so, companies like The Foam Factory offer a range of outdoor foam products to choose from. This is a good choice for any outdoor or patio furniture, especially since the foam is anti-microbial.

For cloth, try some screen printed fabric. Specifically canvas materials. These usually offer a higher degree of patterns and colors, but beware! Screen-printed fabrics generally wear faster than their acrylic counter-parts.

Another choice you’ll want to consider is the cushioning. The right cushioning can really make the seat! Again, where the furniture is going is rather important. Is it going outside? You’ll definitely want to consider water-proof foam for the cushioning. This will stop the foam from growing mildew after sitting through its first rain.

Summer Fun: Re-Designing Your Patio

Posted on July 27, 2016 By

With warm weather comes barbecues, parties, and more outdoor fun. To keep up with these summer activities, you will need to have your patio dressed to impress. Though it can be difficult to re-design your patio, there are three great options to give your patio a facelift.

While plastic furniture can quickly become outdated and tacky, wicker furniture fashionably lasts and gives a relaxing tone to a nice patio. This furniture can come in various colors to match any pallet without taking away from the natural atmosphere. In addition, this furniture can work for both modern and traditional styles.

To accentuate this, Lloyd Flanders cushions work well to add exciting colors and designs to patio layouts. With the vast range of styles, you can easily find the patterns that match your personality. From this, you can make your patio up-to-date while staying unique.

For those interested in interchanging styles, outdoor replacement cushions work well. These additions allow you to choose the style you want for any event without having to commit for the entire summer. With this, you will also be able to store these cushions at any time to protect against weather or other related events.

Noting these options, designing your patio

Perth Contractors for Gutter Replacement

Posted on June 10, 2016 By

It is time that I am going to fix up my house a bit. Not sure how much will get done this summer, but we will wait and see. I have a list of projects that I would like to get done, and I have kind of rated them by priority level. Some of them I will tackle myself, others I will have to hire contractors. I am researching gutter replacement in Perth right now and contractors that do that sort of work, to look into the pricing some more.

It is the type of job that I would prefer to leave to a contractor, so long as it is reasonably priced to get a contractor to do the work. I would just feel a lot better off if I did not do the work myself. (more…)

Affordable DIY Window Decoration IdeasGiving the window areas of your home some life doesn’t have to be difficult or expensive.

Why not add some little features in obvious areas? You can beautify your home with these window treatments without the usual expense…

Tie-backs

An often overlooked but very easy way to personalise your window decorations, the tie backs that curtains usually come with tend to be fairly boring.

So why not replace them with…

  • Antique door knobs. Only basic DIY skills required here. Add some boutique doorknobs to pull your curtains back behind. Stylish, and affordable.
  • Gold or silver chains. But without the cost of the real precious metals obviously! Buy some heavy chains to use as ties, and spray them the colour of your choice.
  • Leather belts. Use some old leather belts – as long as they’re not too frayed around the buckle. Or in fact, even if they are! It all depends what look you’re going for.
  • Neck ties. Got a whole bunch of gentleman’s ties knocking around? Here’s a possible use for them. This can be a great option because there are lots of patterns

Summer Friendly Tips For Your Screened In Porch

Posted on May 8, 2016 By

Summer Friendly Tips For Your Screened In PorchScreened-in porches offer the perfect balance between indoors and out. Enjoy sitting in your home’s extension without the sun beating down, the rain moving you indoors, or bugs getting in the way. As the school year begins and the days start getting ever so slightly shorter, here are some ways to keep your screened-in-porch full of the signs of summer:

– Give the area a good scrub. Summer brings pollen and dust, which can affect your screened-in-porch as much as a porch that’s open to the elements. Vacuum the cushions, wipe down the walls, and sweep and mop the floor to instantly brighten the space and make it feel like the beginning of the season again.

– Opt for warm, late-summer colors. Late summer is the perfect time for rich corals, teal blues, and sunflower yellows. Add extra throw-cushions, a new rug, or a set of new vases to add dimensionality and reflect the warmest days of the season.

– Use mirrors. You can add light to your porch without adding extra

How to Paint Home Interiors

Posted on April 8, 2016 By

How to Paint Home InteriorsFor most people, their home is their most valuable asset. In fact, for over 60% of Americans, their home represents at least half of their net worth. It’s no surprise that with so much financial investment and personal attachment, many are motivated to put in serious sweat equity with weekend home improvement projects.

Choose Your Paint Wisely

One of the simplest home improvement projects that will make a big change to your living space is a fresh coat of paint. If the room is large enough, you can paint all the walls in a color of your choosing, but be aware that anything other than white will make the space feel small. Putting color on a single wall gives a room a nice personal touch without compromising the perceived size. A clean white (or eggshell, cream, linen, etc.) will always be in style, and it will provide you with a backdrop for paintings and other decorations.

Preparation

Start by prepping the space. Lay down a canvas or plastic drop cloth to protect your floor. If there are any visible holes or cracks,

Exterior House Painting

Posted on April 5, 2016 By

Exterior House PaintingBelow are five important things to consider before painting the exterior of your home yourself.

(1) Proper preparation of all surfaces to be painted is paramount. Improper preparation is the main cause of paint failure and/or reduced life of the finish. Surface preparation can take as little as a few hours, while some require days to complete properly. All this time and work and you have yet to open your first can of paint! For some, the time required and the knowledge needed for this step was all they had to hear before calling us in, but not for everyone. Others who completed projects on their own were happy with the outcome for the first few years or so after painting. It wasn’t until the eventual premature failure coupled with the thought of how much time & money they had spent to repaint on their own that they eventually decided to leave it to the professionals the second time around.

(2) It’s not that high… or is it. The height of your home can be a bit deceiving from the ground, and let’s not forget about

Tips for Protecting Furniture in Long Term Storage

Posted on March 15, 2016 By

Tips for Protecting Furniture in Long-Term StoragePeople use self storage units for a number of reasons. They may be moving house, renovating or simply need somewhere to temporarily store items. For some people however, they need somewhere to house their furniture in the long-term. Self storage units are ideal for this very thing but how do you protect furniture that’s going to be locked away for months or possibly even years?

Prepare your items for storage

If you want to preserve your stored items the best you can, make sure you give them a thorough clean beforehand. Start by using a clean cloth to remove any dust and dirt and then use an appropriate cleaner for the type of material (metal, wood or glass cleaner for example).

It’s important to ensure that your furniture has been dried thoroughly before you lock it away because any trapped moisture will lead to mould or discolouration.

Cover everything with a dust sheet or any other protective layer because if something is stored for a long period of time it will collect dust. When this sits for a long time,

Small Space Furniture

Small Space FurnitureHave you had any thoughts for small space furniture for your tiny house, small apartment or studio? I’m sure you’ve searched the web for different ideas. If and when you get into this new adventure of tiny houses and small space living, you will find quite a few storage options or you can customize your own to fit your needs in order to maximize the new tiny space you will live in from now on.

In the meantime while I was writing this article, I ran into a little interruption… I have a teenage kitten named Coco and he decided to creep up into the attic through the A/C unit in the laundry room. He’s been up there for 4 days now, without food or water, and no matter how many times I’ve sweet talked him into coming down, I’ve had no luck!

Would you believe I even called the local Fire Department and 3 fire-fighters went up into the attic to help out with this situation, but they gave up saying “he’ll come down when he’s good and hungry”. So then, a little after they

Why You Should Consider Wall Beds For Your Home

Posted on March 4, 2016 By

Why You Should Consider Wall Beds For Your HomeIn most bedrooms, the dominant piece of furniture is a frame and a mattress. It is generally the largest item in the room, and all other furniture and decoration is dictated by its location. Now, there is nothing wrong with this approach, but it can be limiting when it comes to fully utilizing the space you have. Here are some reasons you should consider wall beds for your home, instead of traditional mattresses.

The average American bedroom is generally 100 to 200 square feet. A king sized mattress takes up over 42 square feet. A queen utilizes almost 34 square feet. That means the most common mattress types for two people will cover 17-42% of the average bedroom. Imagine if you could free up that much space in your room. With wall beds, you can. You can arrange your bedroom exactly how you want, and not based on your mattress dominating the space. The biggest trick to maximizing the use of this space is to have other furniture than can be easily stored, so your room is not overcrowded when sleeping.
